One of these days...

A good friend of mine was relating to me an incident which really probe my thinking skills and reasoning skill last night. Well it was about quality of life. Well my uncle has also emphasis to me to lead a quality life. Well some of it has someway rub on. Well quality of life means doing things and also living life to the fullest. Well let me relate the incident and let you decide what is it about and how you can relate it with your life...

Gopal was a very carefully with his wealth and could be considered at stingy. Well he had his reason as he was always thinking of his 3 sons. He wanted to give the best to his sons and things that he never got when he was young. To do this he worked very hard and had two and sometimes even three jobs. Well his sons were very thankful towards their father and his sacrifice. Like all young guys, once they have had good education and were able to stand on their own feet, they left the "nest". Well for Gopal, it was a good move and that is what he had always wanted, that he had educated his sons and they could take care of themselves. Well once Gopal had retired from his jobs, well he wanted to do all those things that he could not while working. So he and his wife bought a ticket on a cruise. They had never been on a cruise and were looking forward to going on it.
It was a beautiful day and the sun was shinning brightly when the day came for Gopal and his wife Radha to depart on their journey. Well Gopal was very excited but Radha as usual was worried of the house. The boys had told her not to worry about it as they will pop in once in a while taking turns to have a look at it. Well Gopal was the first to get down from the cab which had left them at port. They were going to from Penang to Phi Phi Island  followed by Phuket and then back to Penang. Well Gopal was all set for his adventure. As the old couple walked up into the huge cruise, Gopal got his tickets out. He showed to the officer in charge and was shown to his junior suite. His luggage was carried by a porter. Well as he stepped into his room and looked at the view from his room at the vast ocean , he was glad that he had come for this trip. This was his first trip after so many years of working hard and never taking a day off . However, faith had other plans for him. He was unbuttoning his shirt to take a shower before proceeding to have lunch at Deck 4 when he suddenly felt a pain in his chest. His face was turning red as  he could see it in the mirror. He started to run his hands on his chest and thought maybe it could just be poor indigestion. Well he was having a mild heart attack and his wife seeing this called the doctor on board. He was quickly taken to the sickbay and was treated by the doctor in charge. Well the doctor could do much but call in the nearest Hospital and Gopal had to be flown to the hospital. Well that was when he had another major heart attack and died on the helicopter. During the autopsy, the doctors discovered several major arteries blocked.
Gopal died and never had a chance to go for a cruise. He was a good father, husband and good worker. He was very dearly missed.
The point here is that, even though you must have heard stories of the same kind or maybe slightly different version of it but the theme and message is the same - to live your life to the fullest with the means and opportunity that you have. It is said that the best wealth to be given to your children is not of possession but of education. Let them strive to excel in their own respective fields in their own pace and manner. Do not be another Gopal in this case and never enjoyed his life and never did things which he so much wanted to do. He was always thinking of his children but in the end, he was left behind in his own life. He had certain things, certain dreams and certain desired which he could have fulfilled if he has just lived slightly longer. Birth can be determined but nobody has ever cheated death. Let it be a lesson that in life you must sometimes stop to smell the air, take the trouble to see the stars and at times just enjoy the nature by doing nothing. Do nothing is also a chore and many of us in our quest in the race have forgotten. Do not let once of these day ... be in your life, like NIKE ad goes -  JUST DO IT,  that is all for this entry and am off to get my childhood dream of getting a RC car..... :)

solitary man

I had just watched a dvd of the above titled and it stared Michael Douglas, well yeah he was the same guy showing his but in basic Instinct with Maddona in which you could see more skin than hear the dialogue. Well that must have caught your attention or maybe the downloading of this movie would sudden rise. Oh well, that is past news. Anyway, in the movie he plays the character of a fallen car dealer "The New York Most Honest" salesman. Well during his prime days he had it all, fame and fortune and lots of women. Well however due to some reason, he got jailed for some reason and i am not here to give a preview of the move.
Well when he was at his highest point in his career and his life, he was ALONE. Yeah with the money and fortune and all the wealth he had, yet he felt that he was alone. Now why would you think he would have felt like this.Well i am not in the position to say anything as i am not famous nor have the fortune to prove the theory. Well the movie also told the audience that once he was no longer a rich and had fortune, slowly everyone left him, one by one. Even the banks would not extent his credit and his friends all deserted him.

So the saying is true which is the theme of the story that is" when you happy and merry, the world laughs with you but when you are down and alone, you will cry alone"
But i am not saying that it was a prefect movie and that he did not have his share of mistakes on bad choices and bad decision which he made, but in that matter who is prefect in this world?
Well it is a really a reality fact  in the movie where he does not want to accept the fact that as he puts it in the movie " Last time when i entered a room,. everyone would look up to him and girls would give him the look. But now when i enter the room, nobody knows me and those who know me are the older generations just like me. Bear in mind, he changed and started having affairs with younger girls after the doctor diagnosed that he had a heart condition. One visit to the doctor and it triggered a serious chain reaction. He started to living his life to the fullest which is what we should do.
Back to the point i am trying to make, that is if you are too rich you are also alone and if you are down in the dumps, you are also alone. So an average man should be neither too rich nor too poor. He must have a decent meal, roof over his head, well clothed and have some spare change in the bank. He should also have some saving so some raining days.

looks like from the movie "The book of ELI" but it is not just being ALONE

One is a lonely number, two is a good number and three is a crowd and i am sure you have heard of this phrase before. Well it just proves the point that being alone is not easy but it can be overcome. You might be alone now by choice but that does not mean that you will remain alone forever... Let me end this entry with this quotation from a hindi movie which i really like -- U, me or hum which means You , I and We. For those who have seen the movie would most probably know what i am talking about.....You are not alone in this world and you can never be alone but if you choose to be alone then it is a matter of choice not by nature because humans need to mingle in order to live and survive in this world.

Tsunami Obesity

If someone tells you that you are fat, well you most likely get offended. Well maybe the guys might just laugh it off but never say this to a woman unless you want to head for disaster.Well obesity is a major global problem which is hitting the children or the future generations.
Cops told to reduce the pot belly was an interesting headlines in the daily newspaper which i came across recently and it was really amusing that why it is only target at cops. What about others in the government sector? What about the private sector?
Well being a teacher in a female dominated profession I have always been given physical education to teach and to make sure that the students under me are fit. Well i have no training in this field and learn from the bottom. What I expect from my students is to do some simple exercise and at the same time learn why we have to do the exercise. It is not that difficult but it is beyond me when it comes to eating, That is because i can only play my small part at keeping them fit in school but what about at home.
Well it is not easy to lose weight but very very easy to gain weight. Well i just advice my students to eat healthy food and maintain a good body. Well i try to keep fit to be a good role model for my students to the best of my ability. I would not want my students to comment that " What are you teaching us when you yourself have a huge beer belly ?" Well that is just an example and i would love to have a six pack but have yet to reach that... maybe one day. :)
But it is important to encourage the students to learn about their body and be responsible on their eating habits. Here parents play and important role and should encourage good eating habits.

Exercise is the way of life

Well as the saying goes, the family that prays together, lets just improvise a bit and change it to "The family that exercise together enjoy and create some special bonding together" Until my next entry keep fit and stay healthy.

go Green

tote bags
Since everyone is talking about global issue and the recently ban on plastic bags on Saturdays, i am going to blog on this matter.
Ever since i was a school going child, i had always brought food from the house and at time due to peer pressure i was shy and got teased by my school friends for doing that. But then when i grew up and became a teacher, i notice that lots of people do the same in other parts of the world too. Let me cite an example of my brother in law, well he is a professional in a global company and he takes food from the home. Not that he cannot afford to buy food from the cafeteria at work but he rather take food from home which is more nutritious. Beside as he says, nothing can beat my wife's cooking  with a smirk on his face. Then there are my uncles who also take home food each morning. Well is taking food from the home really bad ? Why do the Malaysian society look down upon it ? In US people take food from the home in order to stay in the office during lunchtime.
Well since i am in school environment so i will write about this. When i started my teaching profession, i too started to bring food from home. Well it would be something like sandwiches, fried rice, fried pasta and so on. Well after some time and seeing me doing this, other teachers start to follow. Well it is not that i am stingy or do not have money or am broke but imagine eating the same food in the canteen each day, well let's just say variety is the spicy of life !!!
So i became the trend starter and soon others at my school have started to bring food from the home. Well it is like now we compare food and ask have our quick meal and back to work. So in some ways it also increase productivity as less time is spend over taking a break. Well that is how i see it. at least :)
Seeing me having my sandwichs, i now have some of my students who also bring bread from home which is a plus point for me as that is what their parents have packed for them.
Well parents should change their mindset and should not take the easy way out by giving the child money and expect him to buy from the canteen. It is alright at times but other times, they should pack lunch bags for their children.
One way to encourage this is to have interesting tote bags  and lunch bags as shown below:

lunch bags

lunch bags

Well an idea did crop in my mind and i did voice it out in my school. I mean we should encourage children by doing something for the environment and what better way than to award them the bags during their Sports Day. I mean we could print our school logo over at the bags to promote our school and also show the public that we support green based activities which encourage going green. Well i have forwarded this idea to the administrator and keeping my fingers across. Well to those who are reading this well please feel free to use my idea and hopefully it could be useful to you. Beside that, they could also use the bag to keep their physical education attire and also pack their food from home.

Well we should educate the children from the young the importance of bring food from home, thinking and saving the environment. My small effort and my small change. Hoping that my pupils will learn from me and will know change once they leave the primary school environment. Like the movie, "Inception" i plant the idea of bring food from home but does the idea evolve to something better, that is yet to be seen in the future. Let's just say i have done my part....

siblings

Well God has blessed me with two elder sisters and i am the youngest in my family. Well my elder sister now has her own family and so does my second sister. My case is still pending.

Today on the eye of Chinese New Year, my elder sister had come visiting me in my hometown. Well she has three daughters and as the youngest one was playing with her dolls, I could not help remembering that my sister looked exactly like her younger daughter. I mean you must be think of course since she is the mother and she would surely look like her daughter. Well the point that i am trying to make is that, when i was small i could not afford to buy and eat a lot of things as my dad was the only person working. But now that i am working and can earn my own money, i have been given a chance to spend time again with "a little version of my sister" through my sister's daughter. I mean i really do let the girls have their way with me. I know the girls at times take advantage and can get away with me as i give in to their every demand. Well not that their demands are big, a simple buying of curry puffs or buying a story book is what they ask for. Well surely i am entitled to that much  for my nieces and nephew.
Sometimes it is amazing how things fall into places, each year as the hair on my head become more and more gray, and the wrinkles on my face start to show, and we tease each other on  getting old. I still thank God for the family that i have as i am able to enjoy playing and goofing around with my nieces and nephew. Well that is what children need, just some attention and some love and tend.
My middle niece is the type who is very sensitive and today my  heart felt for her. I mean she confessed to something in tears and it was really a touching moments for me. It brought back tons of memories of my childhood. Apparently while she was keeping her washed clothes she had accidently fell and while falling her knee had hit her sister's jewelry box and there was a sound of glass cracking. Well she had broke the glass and she was so afraid to tell her mother. Well i mean for a small 8 years to confess to a thing like this was difficult but she did confess to it and i was very proud of her. She could have lied but she confess and was going to take whatever punishment that came along, Well my sister did not punish her and consider it as an accident. Well it really took a small innocent girl a lot of guts to confess to a small accident.
This is really nice and hats off to my sister for teaching good values at such a young age.!!!
Children teach us in our lives everyday and dealing with children everyday in school i can see and learn from them.
Sometimes i wish i had a brother. I had even told my parents that you guys should have given me a brother as i am all alone but i thank God for the sisters that i have.If given a chance once more i would never change any part of my childhood...
